Day 2

Brain Health and Nutrition

At the Alzheimer's Foundation summer camp day focused on healthy brain habits, we taught participants about the importance of regular physical exercise, mental stimulation, and a balanced diet for maintaining brain health. We also led interactive sessions where we shared strategies for sustaining cognitive function and preventing memory loss.

Day 3

Understanding Alzheimer's

Your students will learn about the variety of health professions in the field of neuroscience, and in depth on the primary diseases they treat.
Later, We get a visit from UNC neuroscience associate professor Dr Hoffman, who gives the students a holistic description of her career pathway.

Explores how neural processes influence creative thinking, examining the roles of different brain regions in fostering innovation and artistic expression. The lesson plan examines how brain functions and structures support creativity, focusing on neuroplasticity and hemispheric roles in creative thinking.

Day 5

Brain Olympics

Students will learn about the benefits of exercise on the brain, including improved memory, increased brain size, better sleep, reduced risk of dementia, and improved mood. The program includes activities such as brain performance benchmarks, outdoor exercises, and tests to measure cognitive improvements post-exercise.

Why should you sign your student up to be apart of the Minds Matter Initiative community and camp?

Minds Matter Initiative Summer Camp is an enriching and fun-filled program designed to introduce 3rd through 7th grade students to high school-level neuroscience and psychology! During each session, students will learn about the world of neuroscience and its applications through dissections, labs, keynote guest speakers from UNC, Duke, and more. All proceeds from this program go towards the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, who donates the money to causes like Alzheimer's research and treatments.

Each student will go through five classes including: Dissections/Anatomy, Brain Health and Nutrition, Understanding Alzheimer's, Creativity and the Brain, and Brain Olympics! All that include immersive and challenging topics for students to learn about!
